Concrete Cutting Work at “The Pointe Orlando”

The iconic “The Pointe Orlando” shopping center, located on International Drive in Orlando, Florida, is undergoing a renovation that involves extensive concrete cutting work. Edwards Concrete, a company based in Winter Garden, Florida, recognized for its excellence in decorative concrete and high-quality projects, has entrusted the expertise of Helder’s Concrete Cutting Company to carry out this important task.

The Project:

This project focuses on floor cutting within “The Pointe Orlando” shopping center. Given the public nature of the location, precision and efficiency are crucial. Helder’s Concrete Cutting Company has deployed a team composed of 2 highly trained concrete cutters and 4 cutter assistants to ensure the proper execution of the work.

Unusual factors and challenges:

One of the main challenges of the project is the need to work at night or after the shopping center closes. This measure was implemented to minimize any disruption to businesses and the visitor experience. The logistics of coordinating night work, ensuring adequate lighting and access to work areas, represents an additional challenge.

Materials or processed:

The machinery used was 3 Core Cut brand slab saws, models 3500 CC, 5000 CC and 71000 CC.

In addition to this, the selection of cutting materials is essential for the efficiency and quality of the work. Diamond blades from Taiwan, China and the United States were tested. The results showed that the Taiwanese diamond blades  have proven to be the most effective for this project.

So far, 15 diamond blades have been used for the slab saw on this project, which underlines the intensity of the work.

Safety considerations:

Safety is an absolute priority in this project. Rigorous safety measures have been implemented, including:

  • Personal Protective Equipment: Appropriate protective equipment is required, considering the cold weather conditions that may occur during nighttime work hours.
  • Space Management: Furniture and railings will be carefully removed from businesses, replaced as needed, and returned to their exact location once work is completed in each area.
  • Cleaning: A high standard of cleanliness is maintained at all times, with the goal of preparing each business for reopening in a safe, clean, and orderly environment. Promoting safety and efficiency.

This concrete cutting project is a key piece in the continuous renovation and improvement of “The Pointe Orlando,” a popular destination for visitors and residents. The collaboration between Edwards Concrete and Helder’s Concrete Cutting Company demonstrates the importance of experience and professionalism in projects of this magnitude.
