My Biography: Helder Santos, CEO of Helder’s Concrete Cutting Company

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, I’m proud to share my story—one that spans countries, cultures, and countless lessons. My name is Helder Santos, and I am the CEO of Helder’s Concrete Cutting Company. My journey from my birthplace in Honduras to running my own business in the United States has been filled with challenges, triumphs, and deep gratitude for the opportunities I’ve received along the way.

From Honduras to the World

I was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where the foundation of who I am today began. The things I miss the most about Honduras are my mother and the home-cooked meals she lovingly prepared. I often find myself craving the flavors of my childhood—Beef Soup, handmade tortillas, and black beans—dishes that always remind me of home.

At the age of 15, I left Honduras to financially support my family. My first stop was Mexico, where I spent seven years working in construction before becoming a police officer. Mexico taught me resilience and self-defense as I transitioned into manhood. The unity I experienced there among family and friends is something I still hold dear.

My favorite dish from Mexico? La Morisqueta—a simple but heartwarming rice dish that brings back memories of close-knit gatherings

The United States: A New Chapter

In 1993, I arrived in New York City, the land of opportunity, thanks to a friend who helped me secure my visa. My first job in the U.S. was at a factory, but it wasn’t long before I returned to my passion—construction. It was here that I discovered concrete cutting, and I was instantly captivated. The precision of diamond blades and the technical expertise required to cut concrete material perfectly fascinated me. I knew then that this was my path.

After years of gaining experience and saving money, I decided to take the plunge and start my own business. Although my first attempt didn’t succeed, I never lost the desire to try again. In 2021, I launched Helder’s Concrete Cutting Company, and this time, I was ready. I had learned from my past, and I was determined to create a company built on integrity, hard work, and 100% customer satisfaction.

My favorite dish in the U.S.? Nothing beats a classic plate of French fries with ketchup—a simple pleasure in my new home.

Lessons from Three Countries

Each country I’ve lived in has shaped my values. In Honduras, my parents taught me the importance of hard work and honesty. Mexico gave me the strength to defend myself and the sense of unity that comes from strong relationships. And the U.S. has taught me that hard work and perseverance can make dreams come true.

As I reflect on my journey during Hispanic Heritage Month, I am grateful for all the opportunities that came my way. I’m also thankful for the lessons learned along the way, lessons that now drive me to give back to others and help them succeed, just as I have.

A Reflection of Gratitude

The United States is truly a land of opportunity. I’m living proof that with determination, you can build the life you dream of. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, I hope my story inspires others to seize the opportunities in front of them and to never give up, no matter the obstacles.
